As we all know, Google penguin 2.0 roll out on 22 May 2013. This algorithm made for penalizing any site using unethical method to generate backlinks or trying to buy bulk backlinks to increase the search ranking. Many sites were affected by this algorithm. And their rank was falling down.
The very first bing understood the problem and launched the bing disavow link tool after penguin update. same tool launched by google that name is google webmaster disavow link tool.
What is google webmaster disavow link tool?
Disavow link tool from Google allows publishers to tell Google that they do not want few particular links from the external sites to be considered at all as part of the Google’s search engine system of counting links to rank websites.
Some website owners want to use this because they have purchased links, which is a violation of Google’s search engine policies and may suffer a huge penalty if they can not get the links removed on time. The disavow links tool was launched in October 2012. It has been since proven that Disavow Links from Google is one of the most awaited tools and most talked features since the Penguin update hit.
This feature may not be suited for everyone to use. If your site is affected by spam links and there is something that you can not handle, you would be glad in using the feature to get rid of those unwanted spam links.
It is also being noticed that the websites affected by Penguin updates are considered using the Google Disavow Links feature.
How to use Google webmaster disavow link tool?
Disavow backlinks are said to be a two-step process. Very first step is to download a list of links to your site. After that prepare a file containing only the links you want to disavow. The second step is to upload this file to Google.
In order to download links to your site you may please refer to the steps mentioned below:
- Login to Webmaster Tools homepage, click the site of your choice.
- On the Dashboard, click on “Links to your site” under “search traffic”.
- Now click on “more” under “who links the most”.
- Click Download “more sample links”. If you click Download latest links, you’ll see dates as well.
If you want to ignore all links coming from one domain you can simply type domain:example.com.
In order to upload a list of links to disavow, below are the steps mentioned
- Go to the disavow links tool page.
- Select your website.
- Click Disavow links.
- Click Choose file.
Note: uploading a new file will replace your old file.
why should you use this tool?
It has one main purpose — removing harmful links from Google’s consideration so that the website become more safe and secure to gain its own position.
There are other three reasons why you would want to do that. I’ll go through each one, from the worst-case to best-case scenario.
Reason #1: It can be easily used if your website receives a manual penalty.
If in case you are getting a manual penalty on your website, you will need to use the Disavow Tool in order to handle the problematic situation.
Reason #2: When there are chances of Algorithm Penalty.
Algorithm penalty usually delivers a bounce rate to any website and bloggers can easily to understand this. If you ever have experienced a low traffic due to an average algorithmic change, there may be a big chance that harmful backlinks are the reason.
Reason #3: Use the Disavow Tool to check your website on a regular basis.
It is casual that we all have to be on safer side. You can check the website regularly so that you will not get any penalty.
